While traveling in Central America, I had the opportunity to worship at an international, interdenominational, English-speaking church. The congregation contained Africans, Italians, Spaniards, Latinos, Americans, and Asians. We sang old Irish hymns and modern, Australian worship choruses. The service was a mixture of Lutheran, Reformed, and Pentecostal elements. The welcome was given by a Canadian, [...]

Question: “Why are there so many tragedies among celebrities?” Answer: Suicides, drug overdoses (whether illicit or prescription), divorces, alcoholism, financial disasters – why are tragedies like these seemingly common among celebrities? Why do many celebrities, some of whom are relatively intelligent and good people, make such complete disasters of their lives? There is no single answer [...]

Albert Einstein’s famous quotation, “Let every man be respected as an individual and no man idolized,” depicts the essence of what all men require–Respect. We are selfish creatures. We act irrationally and without thorough thought. We act out like spoiled children when we are not pleased by something. Riots break out on the streets of London. Rebels [...]

It is golden. It is a virtue. It is more musical than any melody, rest for the mind, and sometimes it has the loudest voice. It is often the best possible answer, a friend that never betrays, and it is the subject of a classic Simon and Garfunkel song. And, frankly, I’m not very good [...]

Question: “Is God’s love conditional or unconditional?” Answer: God’s love, as described in the Bible, is clearly unconditional in that His love is expressed toward the objects of His love (i.e., His people) despite their disposition toward Him. In other words, God loves because it His nature to love (1 John 4:8), and that love moves [...]

Months ago a friend handed me a little book entitled “Have A Little Faith,” written by Mitch Albom. Honestly, it sat on my shelf for a long time gathering dust. It’s not that I was uninterested; I was plowing through some dense reading material and figured that Albom’s book was a little too light for [...]

Question: “What is a Christian worldview?” Answer: A “worldview” refers to a comprehensive conception of the world from a specific standpoint. A “Christian worldview,” then, is a comprehensive conception of the world from a Christian standpoint. An individual’s worldview is his “big picture, a harmony of all his beliefs about the world. It is his way [...]

I met Candice on a Florida sidewalk while walking to the beach. She was a young, blonde, attractive woman, and she was hovering close behind me as if she had something to say. She had something to say alright – I haven’t been the same since hearing her story. My Florida congregation, where I once [...]

Question: “What is predestination? Is predestination biblical?” Answer: Romans 8:29-30 tells us, “For those God foreknew he also predestined to be conformed to the likeness of his Son, that he might be the firstborn among many brothers. And those he predestined, he also called; those he called, he also justified; those he justified, he also glorified.” Ephesians 1:5 and 11 declare, [...]

Mormons are wrong; right? Assuming you’re likely to define yourself as a mainstream Christian, are you really more Mormon than you’d admit? I bet you politely but, authoritatively, close your door when the smiling Mormons come knocking. And, you’re probably deft at deflecting a hot Mormon trying to put those combo flirting-proselytizing moves on you. [...]
